Current research into animal cognition, brain-computer interfaces, and AI translation of non-human communication suggests we're approaching the technological threshold where interspecies empathy could become literal shared experience.
This would be the ultimate expression of what Thich Nhat Hanh called "interbeing"—not just understanding all suffering beings, but temporarily becoming them. It's what I call "fiction science" - new scientific inquiry plausible within a few years, just waiting for us to connect the dots.
